Abstract  Jane Austen was an important woman novelist in English literature between the late 18th century and the early 19th century. Austen was the leading role in making the voice of feminism heard in her novel. Emma was the symbol of Austen’s maturity in which she put all her effort and enthusiasm to describe the feminine consciousness and touch upon women’s problems. She dedicatedly describes many vivid characters like handsome, clever Emma who thinks highly of herself and calm, wise Mr. Knightley, a typical English gentlemen. The way in which their actions respond to these obligations reveals their perceptions and impact on feminist consciousness. Emma was a rational and intelligent woman under the author’s pen. The paper finally concludes that Emma is the work of typical analysis of feminist consciousness, and Austen successfully transmits her own feminist consciousness through the images of female especially the image of Emma who is shaped with a kind of respective personalities.

Ⅰ. Introduction

Jane Austen, whom some critics consider England’s best novelist, was born in 1775, in Steventon, England. Her father was the parish rector in Steventon, and, though not wealthy, her family was well connected and well educated. Emma, which appeared in 1816, was the last novel published during Austen’s lifetime. She is known for her gently satirical portraits of village life and of the rituals of courtship and marriage, but she wrote during the Romantic period, when most major writers were concerned with a very different set of interests and values. Her novels certainly belong to an eighteenth-century genre, the comedy of manners, which examines the behavior of men and women of a single social class. Rather than dismiss Austen as a writer who shuns the artistic and political movements of her time, it is perhaps more useful to think of her as an early feminist. 从角色分析探讨《爱玛》中的女性意识:重庆时时彩的规律/a/yingyu/20171204/17285.html
